Sat 27th Nov 2004:   Kintyre Schools Pipe Band Concert
Venue - The Ukrainian Centre, Cheetham Hill, Manchester.

During the 12 years of the Society's existence we have heard so many superlative performances from world class professional pipers and on three occasions from Grade 1 pipe bands. If anyone doubted these youngsters' ability to put on a good show it was certainly dispelled tonight. A brief history

The band was formed only 4 years ago and has come a long way in that time under the tuition of P/M Ian McKerral and John Brown (pipes), and Campbell Anderson and Tommy Blue (drums). In Nov 2001 they registered with the RSPBA as a Novice Juvenile band and in 2002 achieved placings in all five Majors. In 2003 they were unbeatable, winning all 5 Majors and in October of that year were promoted to Juvenile Grade. Kintyre Schools then registered a 2nd band at Novice Juvenile Grade to act as a feeder band. Both bands performed consistently throughout 2004. In the Champion of Champions rankings the Juvenile band gained 2nd place and the Novice Juvenile gained 3rd in their respective grades.

The band has also built up a renowned reputation as a concert band. They relish every opportunity to entertain visitors and the local community and the band has now developed a rich and entertaining repertoire. They are also supported on many occasions by the Highland Dancers of the James McCorkindale School of Dancing in Campbeltown which currently holds the Scottish choreagraphy prize from the Highlands and Islands Music and Dance Festival.
