Apply glue liberally to the rough side of the welt and to the top and bottom outside edges of the bag to a depth of 3/4". Leave until all surfaces are touch dry. Lay the welt down on the table, glued side up. Place the bag onto the welt, starting at the crease at the rear of the bag, taking care to position the bag exactly in the center of the welt, and that end of the welt completely covers the corner of the bag. Pinch down the first inch on both sides.

Moving away from the crease, work on about 5" or 6" at a time, carefully attaching the welt to the edge only, stretching the welt as much as possible as you go and making sure that the welt is exactly centred on the edge of the bag. Only then, press down the welt onto the sides of the bag, (If you haven't stretched the welt enough as you applied it, you will find the edges will buckle at this point). When you reach the neck of the bag, trim off the excess with a craft knife.
Hammering down. As you did with the gusset, lay the bag on a firm, clean, flat surface and firmly hammer the welt down on both sides of the bag to force the glued surfaces together.
